However proud you might be of your Mardi Gras costuming skills, it’s hard not to feel humbled standing in front of a Mardi Gras Indian Chief’s suit. They’re a work of art on a par with anything you might find at NOMA or The Ogden, and if you’ve never seen one up close, then the Making of Mardi Gras exhibition at the Historic New Orleans Collection is a great opportunity. We went this week and loved the potted history of the holiday, with mixed media stretching back the the 19th century.
We’re slowly growing at Out All Day New Orleans, adding some new sections in this week’s edition. Out One Day is going to be a series of days in the lives of different New Orleanians, and Out Right Now will highlight releases by local musicians, writers and creators of all kinds. This week, we also review the Royal Sonesta Hotel and the hilarious Spanish comedy, Official Competition.
Our expanded diary now lists current theatrical productions and art exhibitions, and in the next seven days, we’re coming up on the Bastille Day Fete and the 48 Hour Film Project, among other highlights.
